Why I Reach for This Turkey Wrap for Lunch
I’ve made plenty of sandwiches, but this turkey wrap is the one I keep coming back to. Smoky bacon, creamy avocado, and tangy honey mustard come together in a tortilla that’s easy to hold and even easier to eat. Best of all, it takes just 10 minutes to throw together, faster than waiting in a drive-thru line.
Why You’ll Love This Turkey Wrap Recipe
- It’s ready in 10 minutes, faster than takeout.
- Bacon, avocado, and honey mustard create a flavor combo that feels special.
- Easy to pack for lunch or a picnic without a lot of fuss.
Key Ingredients for the Best Turkey Wrap
- Flour tortillas: Use 10-inch tortillas so you have room to roll. Spinach or whole wheat tortillas work too.
- Honey mustard sauce: Homemade or store-bought, it adds a sweet-tangy kick. You can also use mayo or ranch.
- Bacon: Cook it until crispy for the best texture. Thick-cut bacon holds up well in the wrap.
Kitchen Tools for Turkey Wraps
- A large skillet or oven tray for cooking bacon
- A sharp chef’s knife for slicing tomatoes and cutting the wraps
- A cutting board
Tips for Rolling the Best Turkey Wrap
The key to a tight wrap is not overfilling. I stick to a few slices of turkey, one cheese slice, two bacon strips, and just a few tomato and avocado slices. Spread the honey mustard to within a quarter inch of the edge so every bite gets some flavor. Roll it up snugly, tucking in the sides as you go, then cut diagonally with a sharp knife for clean halves.
Prep Ahead for Quick Turkey Wrap Assembly
Cook the bacon up to 5 days ahead and store it in the fridge. Slice the tomato and avocado just before assembling to keep them fresh. If you want to make the whole wrap ahead, leave out the lettuce, tomato, and avocado; add them right before eating so the tortilla stays crisp.
Packing Turkey Wraps for Lunch
To keep these wraps fresh for lunch, wrap each one tightly in parchment paper or foil. If you’re adding the avocado and tomato at home, pack them in a separate small container and add them just before eating. The wraps also hold up well in a lunchbox with an ice pack. For a party appetizer, slice them into pinwheels and secure with toothpicks.
Turkey Wrap Variations to Try
Swap the turkey for sliced ham or rotisserie chicken for a different protein. Use cheddar, Havarti, or Swiss instead of provolone. For a vegetarian version, replace turkey with smashed chickpeas or roasted veggies. If you’re not a fan of honey mustard, try ranch, Caesar dressing, or even cream cheese as the spread.
What to Serve with Turkey Wraps
I like to serve these wraps with a handful of chips or pretzels for crunch. A simple green salad or Caesar salad rounds out the meal. For something lighter, try a fruit salad or cut-up veggies with ranch dip. Sweet potato fries also pair nicely if you have time.
How to Store Turkey Wraps
These wraps are best eaten the same day you make them. If you need to prep ahead, cook the bacon and keep it in the fridge for up to 5 days. To assemble later, spread the tortillas, add turkey and cheese, then wrap tightly without the wet ingredients. When you’re ready to eat, unroll, add lettuce, tomato, and avocado, and roll back up.
Turkey Wrap FAQs
Can I make turkey wraps gluten-free?
Yes, use gluten-free tortillas or large lettuce leaves as a wrap. Just be mindful that the tortilla substitute may be more delicate.
Can I use leftover turkey from Thanksgiving?
Absolutely. Leftover roasted turkey works great in this wrap. Shred or slice it thinly and follow the same assembly steps.
How do I keep the wrap from getting soggy?
Add the tomato, avocado, and lettuce just before serving. If you’re packing it for later, store those ingredients separately and assemble at lunchtime.
What can I use instead of honey mustard?
Mayonnaise, ranch dressing, Caesar dressing, or even pesto all work well. Pick your favorite spread.
