What Makes These Cadbury Egg Brownies So Special
I wait all year for Cadbury Mini Eggs to hit the shelves. As soon as they do, I grab a few bags, one for snacking and one for these brownies. These fudgy brownies are dotted with crunchy, colorful eggs and they’re the kind of treat that disappears fast. They’re my go-to spring dessert.
Why You’ll Love These Fudgy Brownies
- One bowl batter means less cleanup.
- The Cadbury eggs add a fun crunch and pastel colors.
- Super fudgy thanks to melted butter and both sugars.
Key Ingredients for Cadbury Egg Brownies
- Cadbury mini eggs, these pastel candy-coated eggs are the star. You can substitute any similar candy-coated chocolate, like M&Ms, but the flavor and crunch are a bit different. For best results, use the real thing.
- Dutch-processed cocoa powder, it gives the brownies a deeper, darker chocolate flavor. If you only have natural unsweetened cocoa, it works too, but the color and taste will be slightly lighter.
- Espresso powder, entirely optional, but a teaspoon enhances the chocolate flavor without making the brownies taste like coffee. You can skip it or use decaf espresso powder.
Kitchen Tools You’ll Need for These Brownies
- 9×13-inch baking pan, the perfect size for a batch that serves 24.
- Parchment paper, makes lifting the brownies out a breeze.
- Rolling pin, the easiest way to crush Cadbury mini eggs without making a mess.
- Large mixing bowl, big enough to hold all the batter without splashing.
Tips for Perfect Cadbury Egg Brownies
To chop the eggs quickly and safely, place them in a large plastic bag and gently tap with a rolling pin until broken into pieces. You want chunks, not dust. Also, bake the brownies just until set. A toothpick inserted should come out with a few moist crumbs. Overbaking dries them out, and they’ll continue to set as they cool.
Expert Tips for Fudgy Cadbury Egg Brownies
For the fudgiest brownies, make sure your eggs are at room temperature so they blend smoothly into the melted butter. Let the melted butter cool for a few minutes before mixing, if it’s too hot, it can cook the eggs. Sifting the flour and cocoa together prevents lumps and gives a uniform batter. Using both granulated and brown sugar adds moisture and a slight chewiness.
Easter Brownie Variations to Try
If you love variety, try mixing in white chocolate chips or chopped peanut butter cups along with the Cadbury eggs. For a different candy, use chopped chocolate bunny pieces. You can also swap the semi-sweet chocolate for milk chocolate for a sweeter brownie. For a gluten-free version, use a cup-for-cup gluten-free flour blend. The texture may be slightly different but still delicious.
How to Serve These Easter Brownies
Serve these brownies at room temperature with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert. A light dusting of powdered sugar makes them look extra festive. If you want a fresh contrast, pair them with a handful of raspberries or strawberries. And of course, a glass of cold milk is always a good idea.
How to Store Leftover Cadbury Egg Brownies
Keep the brownies in the pan you baked them in, tightly covered, and store them on the counter. Uncut they’ll stay fresh for up to 4 days. Once you cut them, wrap each piece tightly in plastic wrap and eat within 1 to 2 days. Don’t put them in the fridge, it dries them out and makes them less fudgy.
Can You Freeze Cadbury Egg Brownies?
Yes, these brownies freeze well. Wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, then again in foil or place them in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy, let them thaw at room temperature. They’ll taste almost as good as fresh.
How to Reheat Cadbury Egg Brownies
These brownies are delicious at room temperature. If you’d like them warm, microwave a single brownie for 10 to 15 seconds. Be careful not to overheat, as they can dry out.
Frequently Asked Questions About Cadbury Egg Brownies
Can I use other candy instead of Cadbury mini eggs?
Yes, you can use any similar candy-coated chocolate, like M&Ms or chocolate eggs from other brands. Just keep the pieces about the same size. The color and flavor will vary but still taste great.
Do I have to use espresso powder?
No, it’s optional. The espresso powder doesn’t make the brownies taste like coffee; it just deepens the chocolate flavor. You can leave it out or substitute with a pinch of instant coffee granules.
How can I tell when the brownies are done?
Bake for 25 to 35 minutes until the brownies are just set to the touch. A toothpick inserted near the center should come out with a few moist crumbs, not raw batter. They will set up more as they cool.
Can I double this recipe?
Doubling works if you have a larger pan, but you’ll need to adjust the baking time. Use a half-sheet pan (about 13×18 inches) and start checking at 30 minutes. The brownies will be thinner, so watch closely.
